Woodells

I don’t have a lot of information on the Woodells yet. I haven’t been able to follow them back in Arkansas but I will give you as much as I can.

My grandfather Edward Austin Woodell was born in Mt. Pisgah, Arkansas (White Co.) on October 16, 1876, and died Dec 02, 1950. He worked on the railroad for a few years until he moved to Flint, Michigan with the rest of his family to work in the automobile factories. He found work in the Buick factory where he worked until his retirement.

He married Lula Florence Ferguson on November 9, 1912 in Heber Springs, Arkansas (Cleburne Co.). Lula was born on July 19, 1889 in Myrtle, Mississippi (Union Co.) and died May 19, 1970. Lula was buried in Sunset Hills Cemetery - Flint, Michigan (Genesee Co.) on May 22, 1970.

Lula was married to Andrew Dial before she married Edward and had one child with Andrew. His name was Ira Lee Dial and was born ca. 1910 in Myrtle, Mississippi. Ira died in Flint, Michigan March 11, 1933. Edward and Lula went on and had eight more children. Of these eight children only 1 is still alive today (October 21, 2007).

The first child born to Edward and Lula was Carroll Woodell, born October 16, 1913 in Pangburn, Arkansas (White Co.), and died about 1921 in Pangburn.

The next child born to Edward and Lula was Edna Louise Woodell born on July 27, 1916 in Heber Springs, Arkansas (Cleburne Co.) and died September 23, 2007 in Port Charlotte, Florida. Edna married Earl Alexander Doty, on May 29, 1937 in Alburn, Indiana. They had one child. After there union dissolved she went on to marry William Jacob Kleinhans, Apr 04, 1959 in Flint, Michigan (Genesee Co.). There were no children from this union.

Next in line is Hubert Wesley Woodell born in Cleburne, Arkansas (Cleburne Co.) on July 30, 1919 and died March 23, 1990 in Flint, MI. Hubert married Eleanor Louise Phillips on Oct 14, 1938 in Flint, MI. She died in Davison, MI on Jan 20, 2006. There were three children to this union.

There was a child named Elizabeth but she only lived for about 1 year. Not a lot of information is known about her because of the short time she was here.

And then along comes my mother, Geneva Alice Woodell born February 26, 1923 in Lonoke, Arkansas (Lonoke Co.). Mom died in Flint, MI on March 30, 1987. She married Vay Charles Ingram in Flint, MI on June 7, 1942. He was born on April 19, 1918 in Manila, Arkansas (Mississippi Co.) and died in Gillette, Wyoming (Campbell Co.) on October 7, 1971. Together they had three children, all boys, with me being first.

Now is when Edward became Edward Austin Woodell, Sr. The next child to be born to Edward and Lula was Edward Austin Woodell, Jr. on December 4, 1924 in Pangburn, Arkansas (White Co.). He died on September 11, 1986 in Ann Arbor, Michigan (Washtenaw Co.). Edward, Jr. was called EA by all the family so I will refer to him that way. I hope he like being called that because I never knew anything else to call him except “Uncle EA” although I now remember some calling him Ed. He married Edna Helen Arndt on September 13, 1952 in Flint, MI. There marriage produced four children. Uncle EA was the last of the sibling to be born in Arkansas. It was between the time of his birth and the next child, Ruby, that the family moved to Michigan from Arkansas.

Here is the next child of Edward and Lula, Ruby May Woodell, born Apr 29, 1928 in Flint, MI and died December 30, 2005 in Flint. She married Emmitt Fred Stevens on Oct 23, 1948 in Flint, MI. He was born Dec 25, 1926 died Oct 30, 1978. Ruby and Emmitt, or “Uncle Steve” as we all called him, had two children.

The last Child born to Edward and Lula is, Rose Etta Woodell born Mar 01, 1930 in Flint. She married Shaheen Shaheen on Apr 03, 1954 in Flint. They have 6 children, five girls and one boy.

This is all my family from the Woodell side. When we were all younger we were all close and would get together a couple of times a year. Now as we have gotten older, there is some of the family I haven’t seen in years. There is some that I don’t know their families and they don’t know me or mine. But for whatever it is worth this is US!
